Unknown Crew - 838th Squadron

The aircraft he mentions is likely B-17 #44-4987, which is mentioned in Roger Freeman's book "The B-17 Flying Fortress Story". In that, it is stated the aircraft was assigned to the 8AF 21-Mar-45, returned US/Bradley 12-Jul-45. This information connects with Mason's comments.
The group of men would have included air crew and passengers on this flight to the US.
