487th Bomb Group (H)
Station 137 - Lavenham, Suffolk, UK
22-Sep-43 to 7-Nov-45

Sherrill Crew - 839th Squadron
Back row (L to R): Sgt Robert J. Van Sice (armorer-gunner), unknown, Sgt Samuel J. Evans (flight engineer), unknown, S/Sgt Larry A. Cundiff (gunner), Sgt Edward M. Wonnacott (radio operator)
Front row (L to R): 2nd Lt Lawrence E. Pachoud Jr (copilot), 1st Lt Stephen H. Sherrill Jr (pilot), F/O William Friedland (navigator), 1st Lt Harold E. Sandusky (bombardier)
This photo was taken in the States shortly before the Sherrill crew flew across the Atlantic to England. William Friedland doesn't remember any changes to the crew during the final stage of crew training, so the two unknowns in the back row are probably Leo J. Hotaling (engineer-gunner) and Thomas W. Hoffman (gunner). Mr. Friedland remembers that Samuel J. Evans was always smiling, and was a sort of 'cheerleader' for the crew. He also remembers that the crewmen, officers and enlisted, got along well with each other.
