487th Bomb Group (H)
Memorial to crew lost on 11-May-1944

Here is information from Lorin McCleary, son of 2D Lt. Lorin McCleary:

9-May-2015 - Varize, France

At 10:00 am on Saturday, May 9, 2015 in Varize, France, a memorial will be placed and dedicated to my father, 2D Lt. Lorin McCleary, pilot and the 8 crew members who died in the sky on 11 May 1944 near this small town. On this, the 3rd mission of the 487th BG, their aircraft, a B24 H, 42-52444 was hit by flak over Chateaudun, began burning, exploded and came to ground between Varize and Bazoches-en-Dunois. I hope that any who will be in the area at that time will plan to join me to attend this event put on by the towns of Varize, Bazoches-en-Dunois and Forced Landing Association. I am grateful to all that this dream of mine to place a memorial to the crew of 444 will finally be realized. Heartfelt thanks to all who have made this possible.
